On the dot of 4 a.m., on the Monday after Ash Wednesday, the lights go out all over the town and the three most glorious days of the year begin with the traditional "Morgenstraich".

For three days Basel goes wild, carried along by the sound of thousands of piccolos and drums and a completely unique atmosphere.
